Actor-filmmaker George Clooney shared his thoughts on Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory over Kamala Harris, criticizing the Biden administration’s messaging on the economy. He previously urged Biden to step down, citing age concerns. Clooney also recalled Biden freezing at a fundraiser. Meanwhile, he prepares for his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck.
Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker George Clooney has shared his thoughts on Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
The Ocean’s Eleven star criticized the Biden administration for failing to effectively communicate the country’s economic standing. “The Biden administration was terrible at explaining that we’re a world economy, where we were actually doing better than all the other G7 countries,” Clooney told The New York Times.
In 2023, Former President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed then Former Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. Clooney believes the Democrats struggled to deliver their message due to ineffective leadership. “Their messenger was not working at his best, to say the least,” he remarked.
Months before Biden’s exit, Clooney wrote an op-ed for The New York Times urging the president to step aside. The actor, a self-proclaimed “lifelong Democrat,” expressed admiration for Biden but acknowledged that one battle the president “cannot win is the fight against time.”
Reflecting on a fundraiser he co-hosted for Biden’s reelection, Clooney noted that the leader he saw in 2023 was not the same as the one from 2010. Clooney has previously supported Democratic candidates, leading fundraisers for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Barack Obama in 2012.
At a high-profile fundraiser in Los Angeles in June 2023, Clooney and former President Barack Obama appeared on stage alongside Biden. However, the event took a dramatic turn when Biden appeared to freeze, prompting Obama to step in and lead him away. Clooney later admitted he was stunned, describing Biden’s demeanor that night as noticeably different from the year before. Despite this, he reaffirmed his respect and admiration for the former president.
Currently, Clooney is preparing for his Broadway debut in March, starring as CBS newsman Edward Murrow in a stage adaptation of his 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck.
