Chuck Todd, the longtime TV journalist and former Meet The Press moderator, has announced his departure from NBC News after nearly two decades with the network.

In a memo shared with staff on Friday, Todd, who also served as NBC's chief political analyst, revealed the decision. His exit comes at a time of significant shifts in the media landscape, especially with Donald Trump beginning his second term as U.S. President, according to USA Today.

Todd's Next Chapter

Todd explained that leaving a place that had been his professional home for so long was never easy, but he expressed excitement about the projects he has in the works. He shared that these projects, once far-fetched ideas, are now "on the cusp of going from 'pie in the sky' to 'near reality.'"

While expressing gratitude toward NBC, Todd confirmed that his ChuckToddcast would accompany him to his next ventures. He teased fans with a promise of more details about his new projects and encouraged them to stay tuned.

Todd emphasized his commitment to continuing his political reporting, offering a unique perspective that combines data and history.

On the Future of the Industry

In his memo, Todd discussed the challenges facing the media industry, stressing that rebuilding trust with viewers requires a grassroots approach. He suggested that the industry still has much to do and mentioned his potential plans for a newsletter.

Todd commented on the divisiveness in the country since Trump's presidency, calling this "a ripe moment" for the media to take action.

Views on Propagandists

Todd also made his stance clear on the role of the media, asserting that national outlets can't regain viewers' trust without strong local partnerships. He condemned the use of algorithms to manipulate public opinion, stating, "We can’t tolerate propagandists."

However, he urged colleagues not to bury their heads in the sand, advising that ignoring reality means missing the most significant stories.

NBC's Response to Todd’s Departure

NBC News responded with appreciation for Todd's nearly two-decade-long contributions, particularly his work in political coverage and his stewardship of Meet The Press. The network wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Todd joined NBC in 2007 as political director under the late Tim Russert, the then NBC Washington bureau chief and Meet The Press moderator. He went on to become the show’s moderator in 2014, a role he held until Kristen Welker replaced him in September 2023.
