NEW DELHI: Los Angeles FC (LAFC) is in search of a boost of energy as they face Minnesota United in a crucial match with playoff implications. Both teams have three matches remaining in the regular season. LAFC, the defending MLS Cup champions, currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference with 45 points. However, they have struggled in recent weeks, recording a disappointing 1-4-2 record in MLS matches since August 26. Their recent form includes two goalless draws against strong MLS teams like the Philadelphia Union and St. Louis City, as well as a draw against Tigres from Mexico's Liga MX in the Campeones Cup, which Tigres won on penalty kicks. The extensive schedule, which includes participation in the CONCACAF Champions League, U.S. Open Cup, Leagues Cup, and Campeones Cup, has taken a toll on LAFC. Coach Steve Cherundolo acknowledged the challenges of managing such a demanding schedule, citing fatigue and the limitations of the MLS roster-building rules. Denis Bouanga leads LAFC with 14 goals but has struggled to score in his recent MLS appearances. Carlos Vela , with nine goals, is also facing a goal-scoring drought in his past seven MLS matches. Minnesota United, on the other hand, faces an uphill battle to secure a playoff spot. With a record of 9-11-11 and 38 points, they are three points behind the ninth-place Dallas FC in the Western Conference. Minnesota's September results, which included six winless matches (0-3-3), have put their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Despite their recent struggles, Minnesota United remains determined to fight for a playoff berth. Coach Adrian Heath emphasized that as long as mathematical possibilities exist, they will continue to pursue victory. Bongokuhle Hlongwane, with eight goals and three assists, leads Minnesota United in scoring, while Teemu Pukki has contributed six goals, including five in his last six matches. ( With Reuters inputs)
