Bill Hader’s home survived the Los Angeles wildfires, but the devastation around him still "doesn’t seem real." During an interview with Los Angeles news station KTLA on Tuesday, Hader reflected on the aftermath of the fires that tore through his Pacific Palisades neighborhood. “People keep saying ‘unreal’ … It doesn’t seem real,” Hader said. “I’m sorry, I’m in shock. It’s just gone. Everything. Alphabet Streets, which is, to me, kind of the heart of the Palisades—this beautiful, beautiful area—is gone. The whole thing is gone.” Hader described the terrifying speed of the fire. “I got a video showing the fire and rushed back, but by the time I got back, it was gridlocked,” he said, adding that he was relieved his family evacuated safely during the city-wide order. Hader has three daughters—Hannah, Harper, and Hayley Clementine—with his ex-wife, Maggie Carey. He is currently in a relationship with comedian Ali Wong. In addition to coping with the devastation, Hader volunteered to help. ABC 7 news reporter Josh Haskell shared on social media that Hader had a surprising encounter with reporters. “An only-in-L.A. moment happened last Thursday when a resident approached our news van, wanting to help cover the situation,” Haskell wrote. “Then, he pulled down his mask, smiled, and it was Bill Hader! Couldn’t have been nicer!” In his KTLA interview, Hader described the fires as shockingly fast and intense. “It’s kind of mind-boggling how fast it happens,” he said of the destruction in what he called a “great community.” The Los Angeles wildfires have affected many celebrities. Miles Teller is among those who lost their homes, while Jamie Lee Curtis has donated $1 million to relief efforts. Jennifer Garner continues her work with Save the Children, and stars like Zachary Levi and Khloé Kardashian have criticized California politicians for their handling of the crisis. The two most destructive fires, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, were only 19% and 45% contained as of Wednesday, according to Cal Fire. Meanwhile, the Hurst Fire near Sylmar, California, was 97% contained. At least 24 fatalities have been reported between the Palisades and Eaton fires. Despite the devastation, firefighters made progress on Tuesday as winds were weaker than predicted. However, the National Weather Service issued a new “particularly dangerous situation” red flag warning for Los Angeles and Ventura counties, expected to last through Wednesday afternoon.
